Guide Dogs, the Official Charity Partner of the Betfred British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo, have benefitted from over £75,000 of fundraising through activations organised at the tournament.

For the second year running, British-based bookmaker Betfred pledged to donate £500 for every eagle made during the week, which ended in Denmark’s Niklas Nørgaard claiming his maiden DP World Tour title at The Belfry. With a total of 44 eagles made across the four days of competition, £22,000 was contributed towards the total.

In collaboration with the DP World Tour’s existing Green Drive sustainability programme, tournament title partner Betfred also committed to donating £500 for every green driven at The Belfry’s iconic par four tenth hole across the four tournament days on the Brabazon. With 41 successful green drives – 15 more than last year – an additional £20,500 raised was. In addition, the European Tour group will plant 4,100 trees after committing to plant 100 trees for every occasion the green was driven.

Betfred, who have now been Title Partner of the Betfred British Masters for six years, topped up the £42,500 total to £55,000 to cover the entire cost of raising and training one guide dog puppy from birth through to retirement.

In the tournament village, fans were also able to donate to Guide Dogs by taking on the Long Putt Challenge and the tenth hole Green Drive simulator, with additional funds from both activations totalling more than £20,000, resulting in a total figure of over £75,000.

The members of the public who drove the green in the simulator were invited to drive the green for real on Saturday, with one able to carry the water and thus awarded a lifetime supply of golf balls.

Andrew Lennox, CEO of Guide Dogs, said: “From the unforgettable moments on the course to the amazing support from the fans, we are incredibly grateful for the amazing support from the Betfred British Masters and are so proud to have been involved in the event.

“Thank you to the DP World Tour, Betfred, Sir Nick Faldo and his wife, Lindsay, Freeman’s Events Partners, The Belfry, the players, fans and of course our wonderful volunteers and dogs, whose enthusiasm and dedication continues to help us to change lives.

“Every day 250 people start to lose their sight in the UK. This is equivalent to one person every six minutes. The generous contributions will help us to make a difference to people living with sight loss in the UK, from our life changing dogs to helping young people learn essential life skills and so much more.”

Fred Done, boss of Betfred, said: “I’m delighted to be able to help and the Guide Dogs at the event were a very welcome addition.”
